Tour de France leader Chris Froome survived the final mountain stage without suffering any damage, although the gap with Romain Bardet was reduced by four seconds.

The Team Sky leader neutralized an attack by Romain Bardet and even gave it a try himself, but ended up reaching the finish line together with his key rivals.

Bardet won the sprint for fourth place and as such starts Saturday's time trial with a slightly smaller gap than would have been the case otherwise. Nevertheless, the situation looks good for Froome as the Briton is expected to make the difference in the time trial.

"Of course it would have been nice to take a little bit of time today but all in all I am pretty happy with that," he said. Two seconds over Rigoberto Uran who I think will be my main rival in the time trial. Pretty happy with that."

The team was fantastic in the final. It was great having the numbers there just to control things and having that card to play with Mikel Landa. I tried to give it a bit of a dig behind and I thought I had a gap but Rigoberto Uran brought it back."

The 2017 Tour de France has been one of the closest in recent years and Froome is impressed by the performances of his key rivals Bardet and Uran.

"They've both ridden a very impressive race up until now. Romain Bardet taking the bonus seconds today, he can be pretty happy with that. It's all still to race for now in the final time trial to Marseille," he said.

"It's still close, still everything to race for. If everything goes well I would fancy my chances in the time trial against the other guys. But anything could happen still, it's still very close."
