Darwin Atapuma (UAE-Team Emirates) had a good stage in the Tour de France and after leading solo for a while, took the second position at the finish line.

The Colombian was one of the stars during the climb of the Izoard by dropping the remaining riders from the escape and going ahead by himself. Although he was beaten by Warren Barguil (Sunweb) in the last kilometer, the rider was pleased by the result.

Along with the satisfaction of being strong in a decisive stage, Atapuma felt a bit sad about not taking the victory. "I wanted to win for many reasons. For my team, for the sponsors, for the beautiful people in Colombia. Today we celebrate the Independence day there and I wanted to dedicate this stage victory to my country," he said at the end of the stage.

"We tried until the end, we gave everything, and I think we did things very well. But there was that bit missing, and we are sad because of that, but also happy to have achieved what we did."

But among of the mixed feelings for the Colombian, he sees this stage like a win for one important reason. "To be ahead of Chris (Froome), who is almost the champion of the Tour, feels like a victory to me. We are growing little by little and I think that is the most important thing," he commented.
