Mikel Landa of Team Sky knows that the Tour de France podium will be very complicated for him after failing to gain time in the last mountain stage on Thursday.

Landa was given space to ride away from the group of favorites but was soon caught again as the top three General Classification riders began to attack each other behind him. Leader Chris Froome arrived with his rivals and will start Saturday's time trial in an ideal position.

"Froome is very close, but the Tour isn't over until the finish line in Paris," the Spaniard told Marca. "We can't take it easy, but it's clear that he is in a very good position and he is the favorite in the time trial.

"The podium will be complicated for me because I am at 1'07" from my direct rivals and they will make it difficult," he explained.

Landa confirmed that his attack on the Izoard was planned. "We wanted to win the stage with Chris Froome and with me riding away from the group we forced the others to work. Either way I wanted a bit of freedom to be better placed in the General Classification. What matters is that we took a big step."
