Alberto Contador of Trek-Segafredo did not have the best of days in the 18th stage of the Tour de France.

The rider tried to go ahead during the last climb, but all the efforts were unsuccessful. "The feelings have been very bad the entire day because of yesterday's efforts," said the rider to Spanish media at the end of the stage.

"I tried at the end, but it was a shame that I couldn't have the same strong legs of yesterday. On top of it, there was a slower rhythm, I tried to get ahead but I couldn't. It is not the Tour that I wanted."

For a moment, the Spaniard rode with Warren Barguil (Sunweb), who got his second stage win at this Tour, but he couldn't stay in the KOM leader's wheel. "It was difficult to keep the pace of the Frenchman Barguil, he is a rider that changes of rhythm all the time and it was impossible to follow him," he commented.

But despite it all, for the rider it has been a good experience. "I've been improving, every time I feel better and that is why I finish this Tour happy. In victories, it has been one of my worst Tours but related to the satisfaction level it has been one of the best because of all the love showed by the public.

"I enjoyed it profoundly, now we have to see how the publicity has been. It has been great to be a part of it."

With a few days to go, three riders are within seconds of each other in the fight for the overall victory, but for Contador the winner was decided today. "There are still two stages to go, but yes, (Chris) Froome has already won it."
