Norwegian Edvald Boasson Hagen finally got his stage victory at this year's Tour de France after coming close a few times.
The Dimension Data rider attacked from the breakaway in the last few kilometers and did well to stay ahead of his chasers.
"I'm really happy," he said. "The team did really well before I got away in the break, to try and control a small group. On the climb I just stayed in a good position and when we came down I was in the breakaway.
"We rode really well together the whole day. Inside the last two kilometers or so I made a final attack and nobody could follow. So I'm really happy that I managed to win. I've been close so many times and now I finally got one.
"I could have waited but I was also feeling quite good and I felt that I could manage one attack and try everything for that. I made a big gap and finally crossed the line alone."
The Scandinavian came close to victory in stage 7 but a photo finish eventually pointed out that it was in fact Marcel Kittel who took the win. This time, such measures were not necessary.
"I didn't have another photo-finish and I'm really happy without it," he concluded.
