Rigoberto Uran of Cannondale-Drapac moved into second place in the overall standings of the Tour de France with a solid performance in Saturday's time trial.

The Colombian finished the time trial in eighth place at 31 seconds from stage winner Maciej Bodnar, well over a minute faster than Romain Bardet who had hoped to defend his second place.

As Uran only needed to make up six seconds to the Frenchman, he comfortably moved into second place despite a scare in one of the last curves where he could only just avoid a bad crash.

"I already said before that everything would be decided at the end. I had to take risks, we all did. I went really well in the final and almost missed a curve. But I could continue. I'm very happy with what I have been able to do in this Tour de France," he told Colombian newspaper El Tiempo.

Uran went on to thank the Colombian fans for the support received throughout the race.

"As Colombians, we live for sport. We need those moments of happiness. I thank all the Colombians that supported not only me but all the Colombian cyclists that were here."
