Chris Froome has all but secured his fourth Tour de France victory by delivering a good performance in Saturday's time trial in Marseille.

Froome was by far the strongest of the main General Classification candidates in the time trial, finishing in third place at just six seconds from time trial winner Maciej Bodnar.

With this result, Froome travels to Paris with a 54-second advantage over Rigoberto Uran.

"It's just an amazing feeling," a smiling Froome said minutes after the time trial. "Absolutely amazing. Obviously it was so close coming into this time trial. It was basically all still to race for out on the road today.

"I just spoke to my wife and she just headed up to Paris today with my son. I can't wait to get there tomorrow now."

Froome went into this time trial with an advantage of just 23 seconds over Romain Bardet. Rigoberto Uran trailed by another six seconds and was a key threat in the time trial.

"I think it has definitely been the closest and most hard-fought between the rivals. Given the route we had this year it was always going to be a close race but I didn't expect it to come right down to the line of this TT in Marseille.

"There was a fair bit of pressure but for me it's always a good thing having pressure. It just motivates me even more," the Briton concluded.
