At the end of Saturday's time trial at the Tour de France, Mikel Landa (Sky) was one second away from being on the podium.

The Spaniard rode a good time trial and Romain Bardet (AG2R La Mondiale), a very bad one, but the Frenchman was still one second faster than Landa in the General Classification. "It's a shame that after so many kilometres and many uphill finishes, in which you are never trying to get one second, today by a second I had to say good-bye to the podium. Maybe it is my lack of experience," said the rider to the Spanish radio station Onda Cero.

Now Landa is thinking of all the opportunities he has had in the French Grand Tour to get that second. "I can think of many moments in which I could have won that second. For example last Thursday or that stage (the 13th) in which I escaped with (Alberto) Contador. Warren (Barguil) won and I didn't get any bonification seconds," he commented.

But his achievement in the race encourages him to think that he can come back and do it again. "I hope to get the chance to come back here to fight for myself. I hope I took another step and someone has the confidence in me to lead in a Grand Tour. I want to be a rider for Grand Tours, every year there will be different profiles and I would like to look for the one that's better for me. I want to do that at any team that wants me as the captain," Landa affirmed.

But at the end of the day, he is pleased with his work for Team Sky and happy that Chris Froome will get his fourth victory. "I'm very happy for the team, but I feel very angry about that second."
