Chris Froome has virtually won the 2017 Tour de France and he is already thinking of the next challenge.

The rider confirmed his intentions of riding La Vuelta a España to the media following Saturday's time trial, and again at the press conference later on. This would be his sixth participation in the Spanish Grand Tour.

Froome stated that he followed a different preparation in the 2017 season with the objective of being in good condition for La Vuelta, which affected his performance in the Criterium the Dauphine. "It was not an obligation to win the Dauphine," he said and added that the plan was to be completely ready for the Tour and what's coming next.

At the end of the press conference, the rider talked to Spanish media about the next step in the season. "If everything goes as planned, I will see you at La Vuelta. I pushed back my preparation to be fresher in a Grand Tour that I have never won but that I particularly like, considering that it is there where discovered my potential," he commented.

Froome has been close to the victory in the Spanish race three times; in 2011, 2014 and 2016. The British rider could become the third rider who wins Tour and Vuelta in the same year. Jacques Anquetil did so in 1963 and Bernard Hinault in 1978.
