Dylan Groenewegen of LottoNL-Jumbo sprinted to victory in the closing stage of the Tour de France and as such took his first stage win in a Grand Tour.

The Dutchman was the first of the key candidates to initiate the sprint and managed to hold on until the end, despite a late effort by German Andre Greipel.

It's my first victory in the Tour de France in a perfect place for sprinters. It's a perfect day," said the 24-year-old.

"It's a dream. As a kid I already watched the Champs Elysees on the television and to win here today is an amazing feeling.

"The team did a great job. They put me in a good position. Then I was in the wheel of (Alexander) Kristoff's lead-out and I held my sprint until the finish line."

Groenewegen is the first Dutch rider to win the stage on the Champs-Elysees since Jean-Paul van Poppel in 1988.
