LOTTO SOUDAL
TOUR DE FRANCE

The 2017 Tour de France was far from perfect for Belgian WorldTour formation Lotto-Soudal, which missed another chance for victory in the closing stage in Paris.

Andre Greipel finished second on the Champs-Elysees after having won the stage in 2016, and this ends a Tour de France of missed chances for Lotto-Soudal.

"We got very close today, but once again we were left empty-handed. And that has been the story of this Tour," said Lotto-Soudal manager Marc Sergeant.

By failing to take advantage of this last chance to win a stage in the 2017 Tour de France, Greipel's habit of winning at least one stage every year comes to an end.

"But we continue to believe in him, because he always finishes the grand tours. And even today, on the last day, he rode a strong sprint," the team manager added.

Although Lotto-Soudal has spent much of this Tour de France in the view of the cameras, the team has little to show for it. Many expected Thomas De Gendt to win the Super Combativity Award but instead it was Warren Barguil to take home the prize.

"I think some people don't understand the goal of this award," Sergeant explained. "Either way I am very disappointed for Thomas. It is unbelievable if you see how many kilometers he spent at the front in this Tour. It's a shame that he doesn't get rewarded for that.

"Yesterday he already wanted to go home but in the end he couldn't do that. He wanted to give everything for Greipel on the Champs-Elysees and that is what he did."
