French WorldTour team FDJ has announced the signing of Dutch national champion Ramon Sinkeldam, who makes the move from Team Sunweb.

Following transfer rules, the move was not officially announced until Tuesday although Sinkeldam himself had already confirmed his decision to Dutch TV channel RTV Noord-Holland a day earlier.

"Sunweb has changed quite a bit lately in the sense of sprints," he said. "With leader Arnaud Demare, FDJ has someone I can always ride for, both in the classics and in the mass sprints. It is also a nice challenge."

Sinkeldam joined his current team in 2012 and has since taken part in five grand tours including the last three editions of the Tour de France.

In June, the tall (1.93m) rider won the Dutch national championship. The champion's jersey provided by Sunweb led to much criticism as it replaced the classic red-white-blue design with a simple flag across the torso. A return to the more traditional design at FDJ seems likely as French champion Demare's shirt also shows the national colors in the most prominent way possible.
