Mikel Nieve is joining Orica-Scott for the next two seasons. The Spaniard will leave Team Sky after a successful season in which he helped to defend the Yellow Jersey for Chris Froome in the Tour de France.

The rider is considered one of the most talented climbers of his country and his job at the Australian team will be to bring experience to the General Classification group that supports the Yates brothers and Esteban Chaves.

Nieve is coming to the team to improve an ever growing project towards the overall classification in big races that has already earned young classification jerseys in the Tour de France and podium spots in the 2016 Giro d'Italia and Vuelta a España.

The Spaniard is already looking forward to work with his future teammates. "I especially know Esteban and the Yates brothers," he said. "Despite being very young, they have a great talent and have achieved important things.

"I would like to help the team to get more important victories and be part of it. I would like to be in the big races, I would like to be important on mountain stages and being close to those three guys to give them a hand."

Nieve also wants to live from the inside of the team what he has been seeing from the distance. "From the outside I've always liked how Orica-Scott work and the atmosphere that is seen between them. I think they have a nice way to live cycling and I want to be part of it."
