Victor Campenaerts (LottoNL-Jumbo) is pleased with the reward of winning the European Time Trial title after the hard work he had put into its preparation.

The 25 year old rider completed the 46 kilometre course in 53 minutes and 12 seconds. "I felt well from the beginning and my Pioneer confirmed that soon," he said at the end of the time trial.

"I could maintain a high pace until the finish. I always try to get the best out of my time trials. The fact that this results in an European title is amazing."

In 2013, Campenaerts had already taken a European title in the U-23 category. "Afterwards, I turned professional," explained the Belgian. "The difference between the U23-category and the professionals is huge. Despite that, I stayed focused. I made a lot of progress over the past years and I'm very happy with my new jersey after I lost my Belgian stripes because of a crash."

Taking this title was not easy for him, as he had strong rivals. "I had much competition today. Maciej Bodnar recently won the time trial in the Tour de France, for example. That says enough. Fortunately, I could beat him today. I'm looking forward to show my European jersey in the Tour of Britain."
