Carlos Barbero (Movistar) has won the fourth stage of the Vuelta a Burgos. The Spaniard crossed the finish line ahead of Julian Alaphillipe and Gianni Moscon.

The stage was 147 kilometres long between Gumiel de Izan and the Ciudad Romana de Clunia. It was a stage bound to finish in a sprint ahead of the last climbing day on Saturday.

At the beginning of the day four riders escaped and managed to create a gap with the peloton. Ben King (Dimension Data), Antoine Duchesne (Direct Energie), Etienne Van Empel (Roompot Nederlandse Loterij) and Marcos Jurado (Burgos) were at times more than three minutes ahead of a pack pulled by Team Sky.

With 12 kilometres to go, the escape was neutralised and the teams with sprinters organised to position their riders for the final sprint. At the end, Movistar's Carlos Barbero was the fastest at the finish line and was followed by Julian Alaphilippe (Quick-Step Floors) and Gianni Moscon (Team Sky).

Mikel Landa (Team Sky) keeps leading the General Classification with one stage to go.
