FDJ celebrates: David Gaudu wins stage, Thibaut Pinot leads in Tour de l'Ain

FDJ rider David Gaudu has won the third stage of the Tour de l'Ain ahead of his teammate Thibaut Pinot, who jumps to the top of the overall standings.

The third stage of the French UCI 2.1 race was 135.2 kilometers long and led the peloton from Lagnieu to Oyonnax. The route included several climbs and was perfectly suited for those fighting for the general classification.

Gaudu, Pinot and Fortuneo-Oscaro's Brice Feillu attacked on the penultimate climb. Feillu was dropped some time later, leaving just the two FDJ riders at the front.

The duo finished together with Gaudu taking the stage victory while the leader's jersey went to Pinot, making it a successful undertaking for both. AG2R La Mondiale's Alexandre Geniez finished third at 55 seconds after overtaking Feillu, who finished at 1'10" with Steven Kruijswijk and Mattia Cattaneo.

In the overall classification, Pinot has an advantage of one second over Gaudu and Geniez follows at 56 seconds.
