John Degenkolb and Tony Martin to lead German hopes for World Championships

Trek-Segafredo's Johh Degenkolb will be leading Germany's aspirations at the upcoming World Championships. Riders like Andre Greipel and Marcel Kittel are not in the selection.

The German team is already getting ready for the upcoming championships that are set to take place in Bergen, Norway, at the end of September.

Degenkolb will lead the team once again after already having done so in the past. Another nine names have been announced to compete for the remaining eight spots.

Emanuel Buchmann, Christoph Pfingsten and Marcus Burghardt (Bora-hansgrohe), Nico Denz (AG2R La Mondiale), Johannes Fröhlinger and Simon Geschke (Sunweb), Christian Knees (Sky), Paul Martens (LottoNL-Jumbo), and Rick Zabel (Katusha-Alpecin) are the nine riders, of which one will be eliminated before the start of the event.

Tony Martin (Katusha-Alpecin) will compete in the time trial in Fløyen, with the chance of becoming world champion for the fifth time.

Nikias Ardnt (Sunweb), Nils Pollitt (Katusha-Alpecin) and Jasha Sütterlin (Movistar) are the three preselected riders to fill the second spot in the time trial.
