Trek-Segafredo finished the first stage of the Vuelta a España (TTT) in eleventh position, at 35 seconds from BMC. Alberto Contador knows he lost some time, but he still hopes for the best.

The Spaniard finished the day at 25 seconds from race favourite Chris Froome. "It was a lot of time and to start behind is a problem," said the rider to Spanish radio COPE.

"But we will have to see day by day and today I'm happy with my team because they gave it all. We went as fast as possible and now we have to rest and recover because tomorrow will be a demanding day."

The route in Nimes was narrow and dangerous, which is why Trek-Segafredo decided to play it safe. "The route was dangerous, and we saw this morning that some teams already had some crashes," he explained. "So we decided to bet on safety in the pressure of the wheels and the tubulars we chose. Maybe we lost a bit on time, but we won in security."

Now Contador wants to get the day over with and wait for what is to come. "It is true that 25 seconds is a lot of seconds and not only with (Chris) Froome but with all the other rivals. But now all I have to do is to recover, get a good massage, eat and wait for tomorrow to see how this continues."
