Quick-Step Floors has announced the contract extension of Tim Declercq. The Belgian rider joined the squad at the start of the 2017 season.

The rider made the leap to the WorldTour level at the start of 2017 after being in the pro continental team Topsport Vlaanderen for five seasons, and has shown to be a good addition to the Belgian team.

"When I was younger I used to dream about racing with Quick-Step Floors, so when Patrick contacted me last year and offered a contract it really was a dream come true," said the rider.

"Extending my agreement for two more years feels amazing. The team is pleased with my work and I am very happy with my role here and with everybody around the team; you have that good feeling atmosphere where everybody knows each other, which makes you feel at home and generates success in one-day races and Grand Tours."

Declercq just made his Grand Tour debut in the Vuelta a España and he is happy about this new experience. "I can’t tell you how happy I am to ride a three-week race," he explained. "I was really looking forward to it ever since the team announced me, and to line out for a Grand Tour with Quick-Step Floors makes me really proud. The atmosphere on the first stage was really fantastic, we got off to a solid start and I hope this will augur well for the next weeks."

Team CEO Patrick Levefere is satisfied about securing the rider for two more seasons. "Since joining us, Tim has added power to our squad, especially in the northern classics, and proved he’s a truly selfless team player, who works hard and relentlessly for his leaders. Considering all these points, but also the fact that we share the same values and mentality, it was logical to continue this partnership that worked so well this year beyond 2017."
