Trek-Segafredo's Alberto Contador believes that the rain of the tenth stage will have a negative effect on the riders on Wednesday.

The rider arrived safely in the group of favorites, having completed the dangerous final descent without significant problems.

"It seemed unbelievable that we were in the middle of Murcia, it was raining more than in the entire year," the Spaniard told COPE radio. "But we rode the stage without trouble, we knew we had to be careful on the descent. Nibali tried to take distance but I followed him pretty well, the race couldn't be broken on the descent and at the end the whole compact group arrived together.

"We knew that Nibali was going to attack during the descent and when he put his team to pull it was because he was feeling fine. But when he launched the attack we could neutralise him well and stay focused on the descent because we knew it was going to be complicated. On top of it, there were wet stretches followed by some dry ones which made it more dangerous."

With the rain sustained throughout Tuesday's stage, Contador expects more trouble for what lies ahead on Wednesday.

"I don't know if the climbs of tomorrow are first category or hors category because they are very hard. And all the water we had poured on us today affect the legs, leaving them very blown and it is important to recover well, to have a good draining massage, and we will see what we can do tomorrow."
