Vuelta a España leader Chris Froome was not willing to take too many risks in Tuesday's stage as the rain converted the already tricky roads in a particularly dangerous challenge.

The Briton finished in the group of favorites, making no attempt to attack on the slippery surface.

"Nibali pushed a little bit on the downhill, but that's fine," he said. "It was his tactic today to make the pace on the climb and to try to make the race on the descent but for me, I wasn't prepared to take any risks today. I'm in such a good position and I knew there was still a lot of road from the bottom of the climb to the finish line, so I just took it easy with my teammates and kept everything together."

The Team Sky leader wasn't particularly concerned about BMC's Nicolas Roche, third in the general classification, who gained 29 seconds on the other GC favorites after riding away on the descent.

"He wasn't necessary a big worry for me. As I said I was happy to stay with my teammates. But I think Nico did a great ride, he seems to be in fantastic shape in the Vuelta and congratulations to him. He is at the moment tied in second place with Chaves, so he has done a really good ride."
