The Spanish Herrada brothers, Jesus and Jose, will leave Movistar to join French professional continental team Cofidis at the start of the 2018 season.

The formation announced the new signings on Wednesday, meaning that the amount of Spanish riders at Cofidis will double in 2018 with Luis Angel Mate and Daniel Navarro already at the team.

Jesus Herrada, 27, joined Movistar in 2011 and is most known for winning the Spanish National Road Race Championships twice including this year's edition.

"Movistar is like a family for me, so it is not easy to change teams in 2018, but I think I had to go ahead," the rider explained.

"I studied several options but I did not hesitate to go to Cofidis. I know that I will find a lot of support in this new challenge and the most important thing is confidence. I am 27 years old, the timing is perfect for new responsibilities and see the level I can achieve on the biggest events.

"I am very happy. I am sure that I will continue to have beautiful seasons and more particularly on the French calendar where I always had my best results. I also want to fight in the big classics and the week-long races. For that Cofidis was the perfect team with which to engage."

At 31, Jose Herrada is the older of the two brothers, having joined Movistar from Caja Rural in 2012. While riding for the Spanish team, he made nine grand tour appearance of which five in the Giro d'Italia.

"I look forward to joining Cofidis," he stated. "I think this is the perfect team for me. They have a great calendar with lots of hard races, and that's what I like. For several years I have focused on my work for my leaders, now I will have more freedom and I intend to try to get very good results.

"I just finished 3rd in the GP de Getxo and 4th in the GP Villafranca, I know I am capable of great performances. I will give the best of myself when I have my chance in the biggest races, it is a very good opportunity for me!"
