Lotto-Soudal's Tomasz Marczynski got his second stage win at this year's Vuelta a España, finishing solo after forming part of the breakaway.

The Polish rider attacked at the right moment and soon rode away from his companions to take his second victory at this year's edition of the Spanish race.

"I came here with a lot of hope because I knew my shape was good and I hoped to do a good job. But I wasn't expecting to win two stages," he said.

"Since my last victory I was saving myself a bit every day and today was the second day that I had on my list. At the beginning I was afraid because I spent some energy to get in the breakaway, I had to fight a lot. But once I got in, I was convinced that I was going to try to get the stage. I didn't know if I could win, but I wanted to keep my head calm until the final climb to see how the fellow escapees were feeling.

"I waited until the group broke naturally and then I could feel that I still had good legs. Then I decided to try to attack and if it was possible, arrive alone to the finish line."

Marczynski lives in Spain and the race will pass near his home town on Sunday. The rider isn't certain whether that will be an opportunity for him to be at the front of the race again.

"Well I never say never and I will try. But first I will try to recover because I spent a lot of energy today and in the last ten kilometres I was having some cramps but I kept going because since I was a kid I've been dreaming of a solo victory in a big race, calmly enjoying the last metres and today I got that."
