Alberto Contador has received a massive tribute in his home town of Pinto, Spain, which recently saw its favorite son retire from professional cycling.

Ten years ago, in 2017, Pinto organized a big party for the rider after his first victory in the Tour de France. Today, another six Grand Tour wins later, the town reunited again to pay homage to the rider at the end of his career.

The main square of the town was full of people with banners showing texts like "Gracias, Alberto (Thank you, Alberto), "Eres el mejor (You are the best)" and "Un año más (One more year)" which was also the main chant during the entire evening.

The rider was first welcomed by the mayor of Pinto, Rafael Sanchez Romero. "We thank you for taking the name of Pinto all over the world, because you represent the values of fighting, tenacity and effort. For us you were the moral winner of the last Vuelta a España. You leave cycling but not the heart of thousands of 'Pinteños'," he commented.

Contador was happy with the party in his home town. "I remember the tribute of 2007, it was impressive. Now it looks like this will be the last one and I'm just as happy, maybe less surprised. I say goodbye in an unbeatable way. I didn't imagine everything was going to be like this," he said.

"I feel very loved by you and very proud of Pinto. Here is where I want to keep enjoying the rest of my life and with the school of the Foundation I hope that many kids that are starting with the sport can reach the highest spots. Cycling is a beautiful sport and without you it would have been impossible to achieve what I have achieved."
