Mads Pedersen wins and leads in PostNord Danmark Rundt

Mads Pedersen of Trek-Segafredo is the new leader of the PostNord Danmark Rundt after winning the third stage ahead of compatriot Michael Valgren of Astana.

The third stage led the peloton from Otterup to Velje with a distance of 183.6 kilometers.

After the cancelled second stage, the riders returned to action on day three but still faced rather unpleasant autumn weather throughout the day.

A group of six including Wanty's Danilo Napolitano jumped away from the pack early on but was eventually reeled back in in the final phase of the race. Several riders then tried to attack before reaching the uphill final kilometer, but without much success.

Pedersen proved to have the best legs on the final hill, the Kiddesvej, and crossed the line three seconds ahead of Valgren. Dutchman Lennard Hofstede of Team Sunweb came in at six seconds.

In the overall classification, Pedersen takes the leader's jersey from his namesake Casper Pedersen of Team Giant-Castelli, who moves down to fifth position. Valgren and Hofstede complete the top three.
