Fernando Gaviria takes the victory at the Kampioenschap van Vlaanderen

Quick-Step Floors' Fernando Gaviria has won the 102nd edition of the Kampioenschap van Vlaanderen (Championship of Flanders). The rider was the fastest at the final sprint, beating Dylan Groenewegen and Jasper De Buyst.

The race started with several attempts to escape. At the end the Naesen brothers (Oliver and Lawrence) broke free from the peloton, accompanied by five other riders.

The escape got an advantage of more than four minutes over the peloton but at around fifty kilometres to go, the last man standing was reeled back in. Some time later, the sprint trains began to prepare themselves in order to position their riders for the final moments.

In the last meters, Gaviria showed to have the better legs and beat Dylan Groenewegen (LottoNL-Jumbo) and Jasper De Buyst (Lotto-Soudal), displaying a good form ahead of World Championships road race.
