GIRO D'ITALIA

The 2018 edition of the Giro d'Italia will start outside Europe for the first time in history, having lined up three stages in Israel.

Although the location of the first few stages had been known for some time, Giro organiser RCS Sport hadn't officially confirmed the locations until now.

The opening stage will feature an individual time trial of 10.1 kilometers in the city of Jerusalem, with day two offering a 167km stage from Haifa to Tel Aviv.

Be'er Sheva hosts the start of the third stage, which finishes 226 kilometers later in the beach resort of Eilat. None of the three stages will go through Palestinean territory.

This will be the 13th Giro start outside of Italy and the first grand tour start ever outside Europe.
