New UCI president David Lappartient has announced the disappearance of the Team Time Trial at World Championships, at the request of several WorldTour teams.

The Team Time Trial was first added to the programme in 2012 but interest of WorldTour teams to participate was limited.

This year, 11 of 18 WorldTour teams took part in the event in in 2016 this amount was even lower as just eight teams of the highest level participated in the Qatar edition.

Lappartient confirmed to Direct Velo that the TTT will still form part of the World Championships of Innsbruck-Tirol in 2018 and Yorkshire in 2019, but will no longer be included in 2020.

Quick-Step Floors is the current record holder with three victories, most recently in 2016. BMC Racing Team won twice and Team Sunweb took its first victory in Bergen, earlier this month.

Like the Men's TTT, the Women's version will also be removed from the World Championships schedule.
