Finnish rider Joni Kanerva, who was involved in a bad crash during the U23 Road Race at the World Championships in Bergen, is in stable condition despite having suffered several fractures.
The 22-year-old reportedly broke a collarbone as well as several ribs in the crash, but is doing relatively okay, according to his coach Kjell Carlstrom.
"Everything is under control and he will be fine. But it could have been worse. Fortunately the help services where there fast. His helmet also took a part of the impact," Carlstrom said.
Kanerva was riding behind a team car when the vehicle was forced to make a sudden turn in order to avoid the car ahead, which had stopped to assist a rider with a flat tyre.
The car then ran into Kanerva, who immediately hit the ground and came to a stop several meters later, hitting the fences in the process.
