Chantal Blaak has won the title of World Champion in Bergen, Norway. The Dutch rider attacked from the front group in the last 10 kilometres and crossed the finish line on her own.

The race took place over 152.8 kilometres in Bergen, Norway, with Mount Ulriken offering plenty of possibilities for riders to make a difference.

The day started with several attempts of a breakaway. With around 70 kilometres to go, Amy Pieters (The Netherlands), Rachel Neylan (Australia) and Hannah Barnes (Great Britain) could create a small gap with the peloton.

Riders of the Netherlands and the United States took turns at the front of the peloton to bring back the lead trio. At around 40 kilometres from the finish line, the escapees were caught and this was followed by several other attempts to escape.

Twenty kilometres later, Chantal Blaak (The Netherlands), Barnes and Audrey Cordon-Ragot (France) attacked and built a significant gap with the rest. Soon these three women were joined by Annemiek van Vleuten and Anna van der Breggen (The Netherlands), Katarzyna Niewiadoma (Poland) and Katrin Garfoot (Australia).

At around six kilometres to go, Blaak attacked from the front group and got an advantage of almost half a minute over the rest. A couple of kilometres later, Niewiadoma tried to bridge the gap with the Dutchwoman, but was soon reeled back in by the other members of the orange team.

Blaak arrived to the last kilometre with a considerable gap and knew that the victory was in her pocket. After crashing earlier in the race, the 27-year-old crossed the finish line on her own and became the new World Champion.

Garfoot took Silver and last year's champion Amalie Dideriksen (Denmark) got Bronze.
