Luis Leon Sanchez: I want to dedicate this victory to Michele Scarponi

Luis Leon Sanchez (Astana) has taken his first victory in almost 15 months at the GP Beghelli. It was a special day for the rider on which he even had a moment for a special dedication.

The Spaniard jumped from the peloton with five kilometres to go and managed to stay ahead, crossing the finish line on his own. "Today, the whole team spent a great day!" said the rider.

"Sergei Chernetckii was in the break during three laps. Later, at the final lap Michael Valgren attacked on the climb, and after that, I saw my chance to attack with 5 km to go. Yes, I am very happy with the win, a good result for me, but also for the team."

The team and its riders still feel the absence of Michele Scarponi, who died six months ago when a car ran him over during training, and Sanchez wanted to say a few words for him. "I want to dedicate this victory to Michele Scarponi, I am happy to do it for him," he commented.

"In general, it was a nice day for our team, because Jakob Fuglsang and Alexey Lutsenko also won in Kazakhstan. We all are confident and happy!"
