Three riders fall victim to the same curve at Il Lombardia

Quick-Step Floors Laurens De Plus suffered a heavy crash during Il Lombardia and he was not the only one to finish the season in the same curve.

With 41 kilometres to go, and as he was part of a three-men escape, De Plus went too wide in a curve and ended up going over the guardrail and into the depth next to the road. Fortunately, his team confirmed that he didn't suffer serious injuries considering the kind of crash.

Although during the rest of the race there was no report of more crashes, afterwards it was confirmed by teams and riders that at least two more suffered the same kind of accident in the exact same spot.

AG2R La Mondiale confirmed after the race that Jan Bakelants had suffered a heavy crash and that his condition remains unknown. The team also said that it happened in the same location and that the Belgian also went over the guardrail.

And Direct-Energie's Lilian Calmejane retweeted the images of De Plus' crash and added that he also crashed at the same spot, as such finishing his 2017 season.
