Colombian rider Winner Anacona is awaiting the results of medical tests following a crash in Il Lombardia on Saturday.

The 2017 edition of the Italian monument ended with at least four riders suffering serious crashes. The most visible incident was that of Laurens De Plus, who was shown going over the guardrail after going wide in a curve, but Jan Bakelants, Lilian Calmejane and Anacona all suffered similar incidents in the same stretch.

In the night after the race, the Colombian confirmed his accident on social media and the next morning he elaborated on his injuries. "At the beginning, I thought this injury was a matter of scratches and bruises, I will have to wait for the inflammation to subside to have an ultrasound," he said on his Instagram account.

"My leg crashed against the border that you can see in the picture and further tests will dismiss a rupture in the fibres. For now, I will have to take a rest to see how the injuries evolve in the next days."
