Sam Bennett makes it four in Tour of Turkey

Bora-hansgrohe's Sam Bennett has once again confirmed his dominance at the Tour of Turkey, beating home rider Ahmet Orken to take his fourth stage victory.

The fifth stage of the Turkish race led the peloton from Selcuk to Izmir with a total distance of 166 kilometers.

Turkish riders Onur Balkan and Muhammed Atalay escaped earlier on and were later joined by Gregory Daniel, Shane Archbold, Lukas Spengler, Jonas Koch, Matteo Spreafico and Alex Turrin.

The peloton was not planning to let the group stay ahead though as Trek-Segafredo set a high pace for Edward Theuns, which proved too much for several other sprinters.

With the earlier lead group already caught, Colombian Daniel Felipe Martinez tried to launch an attack to improve from his fourth place in the overall classification. The Wilier-Triestina Sella Italia was joined by teammate Ilia Koshevoy.

UAE Team Emirates, riding for race leader Diego Ulissi, did well to neutralize the situation however. A relatively calm ride to the finish followed, with Bennett taking his fourth victory ahead of Orken and UAE's Simone Consonni.

Ulissi remains in the overall lead, 12 seconds ahead of Jesper Hansen of Astana Pro Team.
