Fernando Gaviria takes second victory at Tour of Guangxi

Fernando Gaviria (Quick-Step Floors) has taken his second victory at the Tour of Guangxi. The rider was the fastest at the final sprint, beating Max Walscheid and Wouter Wippert.

The second stage of the last WorldTour race of the season took the riders over 156.7 kilometres between Nanning and Qinzhou.

The breakaway of the day was formed in the first kilometres. Three riders: Wang Miyin (Bahrain-Merida), Jonathan Lastra (Caja Rural-Seguros RGA) and Silvan Dillier (BMC) rode in front for most of the stage and were joined at five kilometres from the end by Thomas De Gendt (Lotto-Soudal).

The Belgian was the last to get caught by the peloton at three kilometres from the finish line, after which the teams organised themselves to position their sprinters. Gaviria was once again the strongest in the final meters, Sunweb's Max Walscheid was second and Cannondale-Drapac's Wouter Wippert came in third.

Matteo Pelucchi (Bora-hansgrohe) and Mekseb Debesay (Dimension Data) completed the top five of the day. The Colombian also leads the General Classification of the race.
