The 2018 Vuelta a España is set to begin with an Individual Time Trial starting at the Pompidou Museum of Malaga.

The Spanish Grand Tour will start on the 25th of August in the southern city of Malaga, Andalucia. The opening stage will be an Individual Time Trial for the first time in nine years and it will finish in the iconic Larios street, in the historical centre of the city.

The Director of the race Javier Guillen made the announcement of the first day of the race at the Pompidou Center in Paris. He was with the President of the Diputation of Malaga Elias Bendodo, the mayor of Malaga Francisco de la Torre, and the President of the Parisian Pompidou Center Serge Lavigne.

The first stage of the 73rd edition of the race will be known as the "museum stage" and it will take the riders through a cultural and historical route in some of the most known streets of the Spanish city. "It is an aesthetic and visual route that will show the Malaga of the present and the future," said de la Torre.

"It will be in a province completely involved with cycling and the Vuelta," added Bendodo, who also commented that he is deeply satisfied by the friendship of two cities like Malaga and Paris through "art, culture and sport."
