Vincenzo Nibali (Bahrain-Merida) is taking a rest before preparing a 2018 season of which he already knows some of the races he will take part in.

The rider has already stated that his main objective is to win the World Championships Road Race of Innsbruck-Tirol 2018 and now the rest of his season starts to take shape as well. "It is clear that next year I will do the Ardennes classics, Amstel (Gold Race), the Fleche Wallonne and Liege-Bastogne-Liege," said the rider to Spanish newspaper Marca.

"If I could choose one of those, I would like to win Liege, but I know it isn't easy."

Even though the rider hasn't decided on the Grand Tours he will ride, he will surely choose the ones that suit his ideas of taking the Rainbow Jersey in September. "I will decide my complete calendar during the preseason meeting in December in Croatia," he explained.

"Right now I don't know for sure which Grand Tours I'm going to ride. Each one of them has its advantages and disadvantages but it will have to be discussed with the team and with my trainer Paolo Slongo."

For the public, Nibali is one of the few active riders that shows an attacking style and after the retirement of Alberto Contador, many think he may be the last one. "Alberto was a great champion. In the Vuelta, I could see the love that the Spanish public has for him. His racing style has always been about giving a show and I've always liked that," he commented.

"I often try to race like he did. I honestly try to entertain the audience with my style but I use it to win."

Next season, teams will be reduced to eight riders in big races, which could make it easier to beat strong squads like Team Sky. "We will see. Races, in theory, should now be less controllable and more secure, and that was the reason behind the measure. But at the end, Sky always has a strong team and it won't be easy to beat them," he affirmed.

But Nibali has the trust that Bahrain-Merida will be even better next season. "We have strengthened our team with big signings and I'm sure we will take a big leap, being more competitive in 2018. The arrival of strong riders like Gorka Izagirre, (Domenico) Pozzovivo and (Matej) Mohoric will undoubtfully give us more quality and chances in the tough stages."
