Team Sky's Chris Froome has won the first edition of the Shanghai Criterium. The four-time winner of the Tour de France crossed the finish line ahead of Rigoberto Uran and Warren Barguil.

The exhibition race took place over 23 laps around Shanghai and each of the jersey holders of the last edition of the French Grand Tour got to wear them to please the Chinese public.

The peloton rode together until a group of riders escaped and ended up staying ahead until the end. Rigoberto Uran (Cannondale-Drapac), Froome, Warren Barguil (Sunweb) and Alberto Contador (Trek-Segafredo) formed the breakaway and the Tour de France winner showed to be the fastest at the finish line.

"It was not easy with all those sprinters in the peloton, so the only option was to attack," said Froome at the end of the race.

On the podium, the Briton got a Yellow Jersey, Barguil got the Polka Dot Jersey and Marcel Kittel (Quick-Step Floors) received the Green Jersey. On his last day as a professional rider, Contador was awarded the most aggressive rider trophy.
