Astana is considering to sue Fabio Aru for leaving for UAE Team Emirates. The Italian rider signed a three-year contract with the Middle Eastern squad.

The General Manager of Astana, Alexander Vinokourov has stated that the team will take measures against the rider. "We will ask for some kind of compensation for the damages he caused to the team," he said to Kazakh newspaper vesti.kz. "His departure leaves us without a top rider ahead of next season."

The Manager said that the team tried to make Aru stay under some extension clauses present in his contract, but it didn't work. Now the Kazakh team will have Miguel Angel Lopez and Jakob Fuglsang as sole leaders for the 2018 season.

"We could have signed another rider, like (Rigoberto) Uran if he would have told us just after the Tour de France that he was going to leave," he explained. "But we just knew two weeks ago and it was impossible to do something, everybody else already has a contract."

After trying all the possibilities, Vinokourov said that they don't have another option but to take legal action against the Italian. "Now everything is in the hands of our lawyers. He left us no choice," he commented.

"We thank him for the years he spent in our team. This is unpleasant, but he was the one that chose this road."
