Italian Paolo Tiralongo will retire as a cyclist and take on the role of assistant sports director for UAE Team Emirates from the start of the 2018 season.
This was announced by the WorldTour formation on Wednesday.
As such, the 40-year-old will join Marco Marzano, Joxean Fernandez Matxin, Philippe Mauduit, Simone Pedrazzini, Daniele Righi, Mario Scirea and Bruno Vicino in UAE's management team.
Tiralongo was one of the most experienced riders in the current professional peloton, having made his debut at Fassa Bortolo in 2002. He later went on to represent Ceramiche Panaria-Fiordo and Lampre-Fondital before joining his current team in 2010.
The Italian got his best individual results in the Giro d'Italia, with stage victories at the 2011, 2012 and 2015 editions.
