With his move to Cofidis, Spanish rider Jesus Herrada expects to have a more important role in a team and assume new challenges.

The current National Champion has signed with Cofidis along with his brother José Herrada, both leaving from Movistar. "The decision was not difficult. I already had the thought of leaving from the beginning of the season and things have developed this way. At the end I chose this path to improve," said the rider to Spanish newspaper Marca.

"I think there were options to go to another French team, but I wouldn't know for sure the other teams that showed interest. The offer of Cofidis came and everything was decided very soon."

Cofidis rider Luis Angel Mate was one of the reasons the brothers decided to move to the French squad and there they will meet another fellow countryman, Dani Navarro. "It will be in the first concentration that I will get to know my teammates well and we will decide the calendar. I know for now that the idea is to ride French races like Paris-Nice and the Dauphiné, but for the rest, we will have to discuss it," he commented.

Ahead of 2018, riders like Jonathan Castroviejo, Alex Dowsett and Rory Sutherland also left Movistar. "I guess it is a coincidence for a variety of motives, but nothing in particular. For example, Gorka Izagirre has gone with his brother and we got this offer and we chose a change because I think it will be good for us. But I would want to thank Movistar for the way they treated me all these years," Herrada explained.

The challenges in the new team will be different from the Spanish squad, but the rider is ready for them. "Until now we used to go with Nairo (Quintana) or (Alejandro) Valverde and we had pretty much the guarantee of success and working like that was nice. Now we will have to take on an important role, but I think I'm prepared. I am looking forward to starting this new project."
