Colombian U23 national champion Robinson Lopez has tested positive for doping in a sample that was taken during the last edition of the Vuelta a Colombia.

The rider of the Colombian Boyaca es Para Vivirla team was officially informed of the result of the test by the UCI. The sample was obtained during the race at the 2nd of August of 2017.

Colombian newspaper El Tiempo has confirmed that Lopez tested positive for CERA, known as a third generation EPO. Now, the 21-year-old faces a ban of up to four years.

The climber's best result was the 14th place in the general classification of the Vuelta a Colombia, during his first year with a team that has in the past been supported by Nairo Quintana. Lopez was set to start his European career with the Continental team Unieuro Trevigiani-Hemus 1896 of Italy.
