Dutch cyclist Twan Castelijns has decided to put an end to his career after failing to find a new team for the 2018 season.

A couple of months ago, the 28-year-old rider had already stated to Dutch website Wielerflits that he was busy searching for a place to go after his contract finished with LottoNL-Jumbo.

The Dutch rider jumped to the WorldTour level in 2015 when he was a stagiaire at LottoNL-Jumbo and later earned a permanent place in the team. His best result was a second place in the 2017 Ronde van Drenthe and top 10 spots in races like the Rund um Koln, the Omloop Eurometropool, the Arno Wallaard Memorial and the Dwars door West-Vlaanderen Johan Museeuw Classic.

Castelijns took part in two editions of the Giro d'Italia but his contract was not renewed beyond the 2017 season. After months of looking for a new team, the rider has given up on his professional career.
