The route of the 2018 edition of the Giro d'Italia has been unveiled in the Italian city of Milano. The course includes two time trials and many climbs.

The race begins in Israel on May 4th and moves to its traditional host country three days later.

With eight uphill finishes and two time trials (9.7km on the opening day and 34.5km on stage 16), the 101st Giro promises to be a battlefield. The final stage to Rome on May 27th will be a regular stage rather than the expected time trial.

While Chris Froome already confirmed his presence in the race in an attempt to win three grand tours in a row, defending champion Tom Dumoulin has yet to make a choice regarding the Giro and the Tour de France.

"They are both beautiful and neither is perfect. Both have less time trial kilometers than I had hoped. The Giro also has less than last year. They are both challenging. The Tour has cobbles and the Giro has the Colle delle Finestre."
