The 2018 edition of the Vuelta a España will likely include a maiden ascent of the Alfaguara climb for a mountain top finish in the province of Granada.
This was confirmed by the municipality of Alfacar on Tuesday, although the route won't be made official until the 13th of January.
The Alfaguara climb will be 12.4 kilometers long with a difference of 650 meters of altitude between the foot and the summit, and an average gradient of 5.6 percent.
The worst of the climb should be expected at about four kilometers from the top, with a gradient of 10 percent testing even the best climbers. Reaching the summit and the finish, the riders will have come to an altitude of 1446 meters above sea level.
