Bahrain-Merida's Vincenzo Nibali has chosen to skip the 2018 Giro d'Italia and focus on the Tour de France.

During the presentation of the Giro, the Italian stated that he didn't know whether he was going to participate. Now, the decision is clear that he has chosen for the French race.

Italian newspaper La Gazzetta Dello Sport writes that this information will be confirmed by his team in the next days along with the rest of the rider's 2018 schedule. Apparently, Nibali will start his season in the Vuelta a San Juan in Argentina and the first half of his season will include races like Liege-Bastogne-Liege and the Criterium du Dauphine.

Even though the Italian rider has in the past said that he would like to win the 'Corsa Rosa' for the third time, he will first try to take his second victory at the Tour de France in 2018, a year in which one the biggest candidates, Chris Froome, will first be riding the Italian race.

It is already known that Nibali will also ride the Vuelta a España with the main objective to keeping the form ahead of the World Championships Road Race, which has a route that is suitable for climbers like 'the Shark of Messina'.
