Volta a Catalunya to feature women's race

The Volta a Catalunya will host its first women's event in 2018. The Spanish race will feature this feminine competition on the last day in Barcelona.

The women's race will be on the 25th of March on the classic circuit of the Montjuic, which hours later will be faced by the men. The objective of this race is to impulse women's cycling and become an important part of the calendar for the riders.

"We want to bet on women's sports and with this new event the feminine teams will have a new important challenge in the Volta a Catalunya," said Ruber Peris, general director of the race. "We hope to see a good show in this first edition and that it grows with the years."

The objective of the new Spanish race will be to get a similar treatment as "La Course" of the Tour de France and the "Madrid Challenge" of the Vuelta a España.
