Quick-Step Floors' Elia Viviani has won the third stage of the Tour Down Under. Caleb Ewan (Mitchelton-Scott) continues to lead the General Classification.

The route of the third day at the Australian race had to be shortened by 26 kilometres due to extreme heat. Dimension Data's Nicholas Dlamini and UniSA-Australia's Scott Bowden were part of the breakaway for the third day in a row.

With 13 kilometres to go, the escapees were caught and the sprint trains started working hard to put their riders in an ideal position. Dries Devenys, Fabio Sabatini and Michael Morkov took Viviani to the front and the rider launched a powerful sprint that gave him his first stage victory in the Australian race.

Team Sunweb's Phil Bauhaus and Ewan were second and third on the day. The latter kept the leader's jersey with an advantage of ten seconds over Viviani and of 14 over his teammate Daryl Impey.
