LottoNL-Jumbo's Lars Boom has successfully undergone surgery to fix his heart arrhythmia.

The 32-year old was diagnosed with a cardiac arrhythmia at the end of last year, but it was clear that it could be fixed with a surgery at the start of 2018, adjourning the season as he had planned it.

"On Wednesday I underwent surgery for my heart arrhythmia and it went well," said the rider on his Instagram account. "I came home after one night in the hospital, where I stayed sleeping.

"The prospect is now that I have to let the wound in my groin recover well and after around one week or a little longer I can be back on the bike to resume a quiet kind of training."

Boom had planned to start his season at the Tour Down Under, but now he will have a relatively late start instead. Belgian Maarten Wynants took his place in the Australian race.
