Dimension Data's Tom-Jelte Slagter finished in the third position at the queen stage of the Tour Down Under and climbed to a podium position in the General Classification.

The Dutchman was the last non-Australian to win the Tour Down Under in 2013 and a good performance in the Willunga Hill stage has put him in the third position of the overall podium.

"I am very happy and we can be proud as a team after our performance today," said the rider. "It's almost the last day already, so we had to wait 5 days for a good result because every day was a group sprint or bunch sprint and our results weren't all that super.

"Today when the GC was made though, we were there and 3rd place on the stage and 3rd on GC too, for me personally that is a great start to my season and with Team Dimension Data."

Teammate Nicholas Dlamini was part of the breakaway and successfully defended his King of the Mountains jersey ahead of the last stage in the Australian race.
